    Pfair scheduling of generalized pinwheel task systems

    [[abstract]]The scheduling of generalized pinwheel task systems is considered. It is shown that pinwheel scheduling is closely related to the fair scheduling of periodic task systems. This relationship is exploited to obtain new scheduling algorithms for generalized pinwheel task systems. When compared to traditional pinwheel scheduling algorithms, these new algorithms are both more efficient from a run-time complexity point of view, and have a higher density threshold, on a very large subclass of generalized pinwheel task systems.

    Over the past five years the organic cotton production in India has grown many folds. In the conventional cotton arena, the genetically modified cotton is growing at an unprecedented rate. In view of these developments, it was considered necessary to carry out a systematic comparison between the various cotton production systems common in the area. Further, this research attempts to address the larger issues: • Put the discussion regarding the benefits and drawbacks of organic agriculture on a rational footing; • Help to identify challenges for organic agriculture that can then be addressed systematically; • Provide physical reference and meeting points for stakeholders in agricultural research and development and thus support decision-making and agricultural policy dialogue at different levels

    Identifying Opportunities and Challenges for Creating a Climate-Smart Food System in Vietnam

    This study examines various elements of food production, consumption, processing and distribution of food products in Vietnam to identify the challenges and opportunities for developing a sustainable and climate-smart food system. Both primary and secondary data are collected to analyze changing consumption pattern due to income growth and urbanization and identify constraints and opportunities of the current system. The results suggest that rice is already an inferior good for middle class and rich urban populations. These households are consuming more high value food products such as meat, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. The positive and declining expenditure elasticities of rural population suggest that as income grows rural households will eventually start consuming less rice and more other food products. Since Vietnam’s economy continues to grow with doubling of GDP in the next decade, per capita rice consumption both in urban and rural and across different income will continue to decline

It is a major clinical problem that affects many patients suffering from facial trauma, infection or systemic disease. The treatment of Temporomandibular joint ankylosis poses a significant challenge because of technical difficulties and a high incidence of recurrence. This report describe a rare case of a 16 year-man with complete inability to open his mouth, diagnosed with unilateral post septic left bony Temporomandibular joint ankylosis. The surgical approach consisted of gap arthroplasty followed by vigorous physiotherapy

    Multi-core Cyclic Executives for Safety-Critical Systems

    In a cyclic executive, a series of pre-determined frames are executed in sequence; once the series is complete the sequence is repeated. Within each frame individual units of computation are executed, again in a pre-specified sequence. The implementation of cyclic executives upon multi-core platforms is considered. A Linear Programming (LP) based formulation is presented of the problem of constructing cyclic executives upon multiprocessors for a particular kind of recurrent real-time workload – collections of implicit-deadline periodic tasks. Techniques are described for solving the LP formulation under different kinds of restrictions in order to obtain preemptive and non-preemptive cyclic executives

    A comprehensive description of user problem definition for the PAN AIR (Panel Aerodynamics) system is given. PAN AIR solves the 3-D linear integral equations of subsonic and supersonic flow. Influence coefficient methods are used which employ source and doublet panels as boundary surfaces. Both analysis and design boundary conditions can be used. This User's Manual describes the information needed to use the PAN AIR system. The structure and organization of PAN AIR are described, including the job control and module execution control languages for execution of the program system. The engineering input data are described, including the mathematical and physical modeling requirements. Version 3.0 strictly applies only to PAN AIR version 3.0. The major revisions include: (1) inputs and guidelines for the new FDP module (which calculates streamlines and offbody points); (2) nine new class 1 and class 2 boundary conditions to cover commonly used modeling practices, in particular the vorticity matching Kutta condition; (3) use of the CRAY solid state Storage Device (SSD); and (4) incorporation of errata and typo's together with additional explanation and guidelines

    Down Draft Gasification Modelling and Experimentation of Some Indigenous Biomass for Thermal Applications

    AbstractFive locally available biomassesnamely Bamboo (Banbusea Tulda), Gulmohar (Delonix regia), Neem (Melia Azedarach L), Dimaru (Ficus lepidosa wall), and Shisham (Delbergia sissoo) had been characterized with CHN analysis. The elemental characterization results were used to model a downdraft gasification (10 kWthermal) process in terms of producer gas composition. A thermodynamic equilibrium modelling had been presentedfor a throated downdraft gasifier, based on equilibrium constants with appropriate assumptions. The gas compositions of the above bio-fuels had been studied with varying moisture content from (0-30) percentage at a gasification temperature of 850°C. Highest calorific value (18.40MJ kg-1) was obtained for bamboo chip with fixed carbon 48.69 percentages. Gulmohar yielded maximum value of Hydrogen (24.50%) in downdraft gasification among all fuels for same moisture. Bamboo gasification gave overall best quality of producer gas for same moisture. The compositions of producer gas thus generated from these five woody biomasses had been determined by gas chromatography analysis. The results obtained from equilibrium modelling study were fairly in good agreement with experimental results
